Tortoise Diary: One Year Mark

Recently as CNY came around, I realized that it has been a year since I had Light! I bought Light and Dark during CNY last year because I wanted to look over and take care of something. Tortoise pictures ahead~

November 2014

I think Light had the most growth splurge when I was in the first few months of uni. Maybe it was because I don't see her that often; like when I went for NS, she grew a lot too. Initially it was scary how she got heavier and had more mass. Her vertical height grew more as she grows as baby tortoises has somewhat streamline bodies. Which reminds me of the other day when I went to the fish shop to buy the red worm cubes - there were baby tortoises and they were utterly CUTE!! I could just scoop them by a handful and abduct them. (Sounds like a plan.)

December 2014

Light got stronger too and is better at struggling now, which makes handling her a little risky. She's still easily scared so if I want to handle her, I have to approach her carefully and gently. I read online that tortoises will bite if they are provoked or scared; Light isn't doing those things and I hope she never will. >.<

She has a habit of hiding under things and this is her new favourite place.

Actually she can't hide under there anymore because her shell is getting too big. Once, I changed the water for her and when I want to take out the stairs, she was still stuck. Or so I thought. I thought her shell might have caught to the sides of the entrance, but when I look under, she was actually using her forearms to anchor herself to the stairs. ~.~ I thought it was kinda funny and cute hahahaha.

I'm just glad she isn't stuck under there.

January 2015

I found out I don't have pictures of Light in January.

February 2015

These pictures I took two days ago while I washed her tank and Po Po let her swim in a big red tub.

I was quite happy because she swam. The last time I saw her in a lot of water, she was constantly hiding and remaining at the bottom of whatever I put her into. I thought there was no hope because she is just so inactive.

But she did it! \(^v^)/

A little bit larger and heavier.

Struggle struggle.

And I put her back into the tub.

The other day we were talking about Light in Ionization and Giang suggested in order to strengthen Light's bone, I should let her swim as exercise. I asked if he meant I should hold her hands to guide her swimming and then he said it was cute lol. Yeah it's cute but she definitely won't let me hold her hands. T^T I remembered seeing a video on Youtube where this guy's RES is so friendly! (Here.) He suggested other stuff too because it seems like he is too excited over a tortoise and sis told him that humans and reptiles doesn't work the same way. He said to him, they do.

I have yet to measure her length but the last time I did, I think she was about 7cm long. I can no longer hold her in one hand and selfie now in case she struggles and falls. ;_; And breaks her shell. And dies.

From someone who is kind of scared to handle a tortoise (and a baby at that) at first, I think it is an achievement that I am able to handle her without much worries now.

Happy One Year Anniversary and till the next Tortoise Diary!
