Work Diary: 24.08.2014

I'm running out of ideas for titles.

My last student left and now I'm free~ Did some plaster work just now and sis and I went down to buy some beancurd dessert to eat (Teacher's treat). The other day I asked Teacher where he bought it; guess he caught the message. XD I'm just kidding. In the morning, mom dropped sis off at the studio and mom and I went to my granduncle's apartment to take some gifts he bought home from China. He gave sis and I each a cloth that we can wear in multiple ways. By multiple, I'm not sure if I am expecting 20, 50, 100 or more.

You can treat it as a shawl, a scarf, maybe it can even be a kid's blanket though its too thin. It even comes with a CD showing you the styles you can wear haha. One is a warm blue and the other, hot pink. He also gave us a gigantic fish.

Hmmm, let me recap what happened during my work. I don't think I had everything down. No pictures yet either, so now I will put pictures. :D

I started working a little before going for national service, but all this pictures are from after.

Teacher Ether whom teaches young children :3

This guy was placed next to me and I chatted with him.
That chubbiness~

Kelvin (15) who I am no longer in charge of.

This little boy loves transformer~
He has eyesight problems so sis and I would carry him up to see the
transformer poster on the wall.

This was the first time I saw her.
Her mom came and wanted to register her, so she was left at the
drawing room to look around; but she was so shy (perhaps also scared) that she only stood there.
Yesterday, I was in charge of her. I thought she looked familiar!

The girl in green is my student and I sometimes take charge of the girl in pink.

This cute boy learn taekwondo~
He said he wants to be a taekwondo master when he grows up.

Xiang Yi's (previously the girl in pink) first painting.
Usually she just do handcrafts.

An orange and an apple

What Xiang Yi and I did with plasticine~

Haha, too free

The beancurd dessert I was talking about!

My first bead handcraft~

My students~The further girl don't talk to me though.

Bead handcraft by Jia En, the nearer girl in the previous picture.

Yesterday, Jia En (don't know if this is how her name is spelt) wanted to paint Princess Sophia and as she was young, I had to do a rough outline for her. I ended up basically drawing for her haha... There was no way she could complete the face, being the perfectionist that she was. I let her draw the small decorations of her dress so that she is contributing too. I mixed some colours for her (those that she doesn't know how) and she marveled at my ability to achieve the colours. You're just young, kid.

I have to say my drawing of Princess Sophia is quite decent, and if I have to say so  myself, I was surprised that I managed to draw her without her being terribly out of proportion. The things you do and learn by being an art teacher... I find myself being able to draw simple pictures faster, so that my student won't get bored. And I have to draw it that at least it looks identifiable. I got used to praising and encouraging and giving suggestions too. In the beginning, it was awkward for me as I wasn't good at socializing with people above the age of 6...

The more I teach, the more comfortable I became at socializing (plus my experience in national service) so its not that bad already.

Yesterday, Teacher handed me a new student - it was only her second class. Teacher said she may be shy (I mean, who isn't at first?) and he also told me that she likes anime. Ahh, so typical. :) At least we have something in common. She was a lovely but quiet girl. I was a bit stressed out - you know, like you are trying to talk correctly to a quiet person while making them feel welcome and comfortable; its a bit tough. At least for me. But she accepted me quite well, so I guess everything's alright!

She did some plaster work, which is popular among new students. After a while, I asked if she wanted to do something else (like drawing or so) or if she wanted to rest, and with a relieved and excited face, she replied that she wanted to rest. XD I said she could use the computer if she wants and I asked if she likes anime. She nodded and I showed her my artworks~ Then I took a picture with her.

She's so pretty!

Yay! Next Sunday no work because of Merdeka Day (Malaysia's National Day). I actually don't mind working but sometimes (OK, most of the time) I just wanna take a break. OTZ I only get to rest on Monday - I used to rest on Sunday as well but now more students are pouring in, and if it means that I'm able to earn more, then it's alright. :)
