Work Diary: Kelvin & Little Boy

Starting another X-Diary series. :P Now that I've started working on Saturdays again, and meeting a lot of kids, I figured there's too much experiences, so I should do a diary on it. Went to work at 9am today so I could open the door for Teacher Ether. There was a parent already there for a trial class and I think she got a little annoyed waiting for us.

At about 10am, mom drove me for facial and left. There was electrical maintenance or something, so the whole block the centre is in hasn't got electricity and we moved over to the opposite block (which thankfully has electricity) to their office. They carried some stuff over (even a bed) and I helped a little. The office was on the 2nd floor and I really admired their persistence in carrying the stuffs over. ._. Some of it wasn't even light and I've seen how they carried the trolley-ish thing up the stairs.

After having facial and then lunch, I returned back to work. Teacher (on Saturdays, my boss) asked if I mind taking Kelvin (15 y.o.) as my student and I said OK. Kelvin's a difficult kinda boy, and I want to try teaching him even though most of the time he's really stubborn and hyper. I wasn't skeptical; you could say I was kinda curious.

He was already there when I went back and I straight got on to my work. He was on Youtube and some Google images pages and bobbing (more like random-dancing) to the music while seated. He was so high. Teacher mostly let him do as he wishes, but he must at least draw something because well, this is Art class.

Kelvin's OK, in my opinion, just a little hard to make him draw. But at least he listens to me more than to Teacher. I feel like Teacher's too soft on him by letting him do anything - they always have arguments (loud, tense ones) because either Kelvin refused to listen to him, or, Teacher's too harsh on his approach. The latter is my own opinion.

Basically, Kelvin isn't allowed any form of violence, be it videos or otherwise, because when he first came here, he drew violent pictures (he was psychologically affected from video games). So now he's on the road to drawing more peaceful stuff, although he still draws battles, which Teacher doesn't really mind. Teacher allows him to draw in the computer room, but I made Kelvin move to the drawing room because he keeps being distracted by the music (and music video) and his drawing progresses veeery slowly. Teacher also asked me to not be so hard on him.

But Kelvin needs some discipline at least. Hopefully by separating his draw and play time, he will be able to stay focused on his task. And I made sure I stayed with him, monitoring him. I walked around or sat beside him most of the time. I think he sees me more of a friend then a teacher.

Suddenly, the radio plays Frozen's Let It Go (it was repeated sooo many times a day). "Kelvin... Do you know how to sing this song?" Then I begun singing softly to the song while he bobbed along.

There was a little boy too, age 4, and he was sooo tiny. So cute. >.< He's Teacher Ether's student and he is sociable. Talked to him while he was painting, asked about his picture. He painted some people in a house (they look like slugs...) and a guy locked outside so that the house's residents are protected from the outside guy. His picture was really dark (in colour). Then he fixed some yellow on the roof of the house, "Its dark, that's why they switch on the lights," he explained to me. Hmmm, clever.

I found that a lot of younger kids these days are getting better at talking, thinking and expressing. They remind me of the nursery kids. Super kids. But it is amusing to listen to their ideas and opinions; its like discovering a world inside of them.

Later I mixed up some acrylic colours to apply to my wooden keychain that Teacher gave me and the little boy came over. He requested (OK, demanded) that he mix my colours for me and then sat on my chair too (which is more of a bench, really). He is so tiny! I had to place my arms around him to sit properly. He's so sweet.

And he lets people carry him!! :O When I was waiting for the paint to dry, I looked for him in the computer room. He saw me and when I was sitting down, he poked at my mouth. He saw my braces! XD Then I mimed biting him (because most children freak out when I do that) and then he mimed biting me too. Then we just kinda roared at each other. When he was about to go back, he said bye to me and roared. LOL
