So its been about 2 months+ since I had tortoises, now a tortoise. Light was 4.5cm (a little less than 2") on 07/03/2014 and now she's growing! There was a time about a few days when I didn't check on her and when I did finally look at her, she grew! I was a proud mama. *thumbs up*
I felt so emotional I might have shed a little tear.
I never thought I would actually see her grow even just a little. I care for her so much, so I'm happy. ^.^ I think I might actually love her more than my hamsters years ago because I actually wanted tortoises and when you were younger, you know you just buy pets cuz you just wanted something. Not to say I don't love my hamsters too. LOL
First photo with Light~
I always let her eat in the living room so that she'll get accustomed to noises and people, but she's still a scaredy cat (or scaredy tortoise?). She's so much stronger now and her limbs are longer so its getting hard to handle her when she struggles. I have to be careful... Or I might drop her. Again. *touches wood*
She becomes calm when I take her outside cuz there's no activity. I'll lay her in my palm and stare at her while she just stays still. She's getting heavier! But I love the weight in her. <3
Constantly I'll press the side of her shell to see if she has soft shell, but its so hard and sharp that my fingers hurt. I might have pressed too hard. LOL Her colour is growing a little lighter so I wonder if its normal. O.O I read that their shells should get darker as they age. And she may be shedding now too cuz I always see transparent stuff dangling from her.
She's also eating less blood worms now. Why? O.O I know as they grow older, they'll be more herbivorous, but I don't think its that fast. She loves eating pellets, but I'm trying to control the amount she takes because I read that pellets should only be about 25% of their diet. I'm still trying to figure out a way to include some vege in her diet. And meat - I don't dare to handle anything other than blood worms. ;_;
Swimming around after her meal - I always wait for her to poop before I put her back in her house.
I don't know if anyone else does this but I make sure that the water in her feeding container is warm before I put the pellets in and then Light. I found out that warm water makes the pellets soft so its easier for Light to eat. There was once when I used tap water temperature water and the pellets wouldn't become soft and Light can't eat it.
I know maybe the pellets are designed to be eaten in warm water because the temperature in the tank should be regulated, but I don't have a proper tank so I do everything manually.
Her sleeping area
At night, she would be placed at the dry area so that she could dry off as well as sleep. Its a small space, but she'll have to wait till I can get a bigger tank. >.<
Okay, that's about the updates! I roughly measured her last week and she was about 4.7cm, so keep growing!
Mommy loves you! <3
