Yesterday after exam, we walked to aunt's office like how we usually did n stopped by at the coconut stall managed by a Malay lady on the way there. Surprisingly, what started off as a normal i-buy-coconut-drink activity turned into the 3 of us talking about this company that only excepts Chinese (so racist -.- but maybe they have a reason), her work place that hires only females and her introducing jobs to us. She will be giving us the name card on Mon cuz we don't know where it is.
Actually we went about the place, taking routes different from usual but still couldn't find it.
So. Today we went to tuition and walked to IOI and then to aunt's office again. This routine had been going on for at least a month, and it is SO TIRING! These days i think i might have walked at least 2km a day, gosh.
But i don't have a choice!!
OK, while we were going there, we saw the coconut lady again n then we reconfirmed about Mon.
On the way downhill from school, we saw 3 teachers from our school. They were smiling n of course me too. It was a rather funny moment where everybody acknowledged each other n wanted to laugh but nobody did. Then sis waved n the dicsipline teacher (En Azrul) waved back. It was so hilarious! I think we at least waved for 5 secs.
On and on the way, we took a different route unlike usual and i saw Pizza Hut's lunch set is just about RM9! We took the outside route instead of the inner one (cuz we normally go to aunt's office before going anywhere else but today we went to IOI first) and then turned inside at almost the end.
So this time we came from the other side of the bank than our usual route and i saw this guy with a bag and i'm like 'Do they have tuition centres around here or what??' and started looking for signboards. He caught my eye and when we were walking closer to the bridge, he came nearer to us and i was thinking that he was trying to go to IOI too.
But no.
That son of- jerk was actually some person asking for money. He kept pestering us as we were ahout to cross the road and we kept pushing him away. We said that we don't have money and probably can't donate and he said its OK "I just need your name here." and showed us a paper.
And since it was a road and bustling with cars, we couldn't cross. And since he said that 'Its OK', we finally agreed.
He handed sis a pen since she was nearer n he kept sprouting stuffs that i couldn't comprehend because my level of Chinese wasn't on par with his. He's like so pure chinese leh! Even my friends' Chinese isn't that hard - when they talk to me that is. What i noticed was how the paper had just the columns for name, place you're from and amount of money 'donated' but not a logo or an agency/club's name.
That's where i got suspicious - he doesn't have a name, a pass or a folder and he didn't really introduce his aim, where he's from and what we are paying for exactly. And he looked kinda yankee and dodgy.
Then this other girl came who looked even yankee-er and she had a scar on her lower right arm and i kept staring at it. She was taller than me which was highly unusually. By this stage, we were like a quarter on the road and i sincerely thought that they might push us in front of an oncoming car.
Girl: Why don't we stand over the other side? There's a lot of cars. *gesturing over to the other side*
Me: (Hell no! Are you trying to separate us or what?!) Oh, its alrght. We can stand in here cuz the cars are coming. *starts walking away from the road* (I am not going to just back down!)
Girl: *forced to oblige* *Takes out paper too* Here, write your name and where you're from.
Me: *writes only first name and current place*
(We were having small talks, more like she's making up the conversation and not paying attention to it.)
Girl: Are you twins?
"Yup."
"Who's older?"
"She's older, I'm younger."
"Oh i see, so she'll be having her birthday first."
"Yup."
"How old are you?"
"17."
"14?" *distracted n looking some where else*
"17." *slightly annoyed*
"Oh, so you're 17 - how about her?"
*stares* "Also 17."
*realises her mistake*
(Then i decided to pry more into this matter.)
Me: *casually* Sooo... What is this for? *purposely writing very slowly and not letting go of the paper*
"Oh, we're having a competition. To see who have more points." (Read: who collects more money.)
(So this is not even for a cause?!)
"You can ask your family, friends or boyfriends to share this. Your boyfriend? " *takes out couple keychain*
(Even if i do have a boyfriend, I wouldn't be into this stuff.) *stares* "I don't have a boyfriend."
(Silence. It was a weird kind of feeling - a feeling of control. I am entitled to anything i say n it felt surprisingly pleasing. To be able to stare and say things directly and not care whether or not i'm offending her.)
Girl: Write how much you wanna give.
*jaw drops*
"You can give RM20 - and you can get this *wiggles keychains* - RM30, 40, 50 or 60."
*looks at what others donated* (Omg, seriously people give so much?!) "Hmm..." *Draging the time* "But i really don't have money." (And i'm not lying. Mom gave us RM30 to share among ourselves only.)
"20? Just write 20."
"Do i have to give this 20?" (I f*cking said i don't have money.) *looks to see what sis is doing*
(And i saw sis writing down '20'.)
Girl: Write like your sis. 20.
*reluctantly writes* "I'm telling you i don't have money."
"Oh, then write 10."
(Do you not understand what no money means?! No money means RM0 OK?!)
*she takes the paper n cancelled off 20 n wrote 10*
(I just wanna facepalm so much at this point.)
Sis: *notices what has happened* But your friend said that we don't have to donate and we just have to write our name! That's why we agreed to write!
Boy: *feigns confused face* Har?
(Boy n girl looked at each other in silence n i'm guessing that she felt betrayed since they were supposed to be rivals.)
The girl left n i felt a little pity (just a little!) for her. We then proceeded to just 'donate' RM10 for both people as a go-away-n-don't-bother-us token.
Ugh, irritating.
We felt so besong (unsettled) afterwards n so no mood to eat! Damn!! I felt like hitting the table at Wendy's so much oh God.
We cool down a little afterwards n accept that incident as a lesson to not simply just give people money. At least come with a fake logo n act a bit professional if you wanna fool people!
Then we headed to Jusco (I still like to call it Jusco) and bought a hotdog bread and a bottle of water with whatever we have left for the begger-uncle (cuz he only had a quarter of water left in his bottle) often sighted whenever we cross the bridge to IOI. It looked like it was about to rain, and we don't know if he'll be here until evening or not, so we half-ran to the bridge. (We were kinda freaking out like 'What if there are 2 beggers?!')
The uncle had only one arm and i felt so sad for him. We each gave him a ringgit from our own and i put the plastic (with the bottle n bread inside) beside him and "Ze ge shi gei ni de" ("This is for you" - the pin ying may be wrong cuz i spelt it how i said it) I said.
He kept only uttering a phrase in Mandarin (and again, I couldn't comprehend) but after translating it into Cantonese, it may be "Fa da chai" (in Mandarin) - I don't know how to express it in English but its basically a blessing, like be wealthy, prosperous, etc.
And that's when i realised that his mentality might not be like ours. (Not because of what he said, but how he speaks and the getures he makes.) A lot of beggers became a little off after a while. He didn't seemed to have noticed that we had given him something, but i'm sure that somewhere inside, he might feel gratitude.
I hope that the bread - although not that great - will be one of his greatest meal ever. It was bought with love~ We chose a bread that will be easy to eat, not too sugary and great for all ages (I guess).
When we went back at about 5, he was still there, but sleeping. There was a plastic with a pack of Gardenia bun in it n a full bottle. But i was not ours.
Before we saw him again, we were thinking like 'What if he doesn't want the food??', 'What if he left, and our bread n water is still lying there untouched??', 'What if...'.
But i'm guessing that he had either ate it or hid it in his bag so others will give him something. I checked in the drains and roads and there are no signs that he threw our food, phew...
I had wanted to do this for a long time!! Mission accomplished! *beams*
