People wanting to get braces often wonders if they are painful. Well, here's my answer: What is beauty without pain?
I'm kidding, it actually isn't that painful at all. Perhaps its because of the advanced type of braces nowadays or something. LOL
I have been given the Damon braces as the braces of my treatment. They are fantastic! Its not as painful as the traditional braces, I guess, and it is not as ugly. I like the simplicity of it.
I guess my reaction was like most people's; I was so damn scared of having braces because I heard it was painful. But then I found out that the people I asked were mostly wearing traditional braces. Now I feel so sorry for them... I heard from Lucy that she have to change the wire every month, but with Damon, you don't even have to, which I think is absolutely superb (but you do still have to change it sometimes depending on your teeth's condition).
Luckily for me, I don't have to do any extractions and stuff. *sighs of relieve* Extractions of mature teeth are what I'm most scared of. I have my last baby tooth taken out at 16. LOL
There is a story behind my non-extraction; I have visited 3 different dental clinics as potential locations for my orthodontics treatment. Two of them said that I have to do extractions and one of them said that I can try the treatment without extractions. Guess which one I went to. Yup. This is one of my smartest decision ever.
But the dentist said that if after 3 months, my upper gum starts to protrude, I'll have to do extractions. I went cold at that. XD She said I have a nice lip structure and protruding would ruin it. But fortunately for me, my treatment went well and I am free from extractions!
Of course the first few days after the treatment would be difficult; I couldn't even swallow porridge properly. LOL But I wasn't about to give up because I really wanted straight teeth. My discomfort lasted normally for about 4 days after each treatment, which I think is fairly better than people who suffers for a week plus.
But seriously; what is beauty without a little pain? Now, I am truly grateful that I am wearing braces because I know I will have better looking teeth in the future. The longer I try to delay the treatment, the more afraid and paranoid I'll be. I guess that applies to most people? :)
If you want to get braces and is afraid of pain, I strongly suggest you to go for Damon. You can try asking your dentist if this particular treatment is available in your area.
And finally, good luck! If I can do it, so can you! XD
