Book: Princess Academy (314 pages)

Yay! My books from Scholastic had just arrived this week and of course I'm so overjoyed! XD It has been a loooooong time since I had read because of exams and school works. ;_; I used to read everyday before bed. But now exam's over and I'm getting a 2-weeks holiday which gives me all the more reason to read!!

It was a lovely idea and Miri wished she could believe it, but she knew lowlanders would never allow a crown to sit on a mountain girl's head.

High on the slopes of rocky Mount Eskel, Miri's family pounds a living from the stone of the mountain itself. But Miri's life will change forever when word comes that her small village is the home of the future princess. All eligible girls must attend a makeshift academy to prepare for royal life. At the school, Miri finds herself confronting bitter competition among the girls and her own conflicted desires to be chosen. Yet when danger comes to the academy, it is Miri, named for a tiny mountain flower, who must find a way to save her classmates - and the future of their beloved village.

One of the books I bought was Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. Its not really big on romance or anything; the romance bit is just the last few chapters so it'll be quite disappointing for romantics. Overall, I thought the plot was interesting and smart. My favourite character have to be the main girl because she's just so intelligent and hardworking! I feel like I can relate to her and she inspires me~

I had always loved stories with princesses and stuff, though princes does not have to dominate the elements of the stories. I don't really care for princes, but I really like those stories of girls to princesses. They have to fight through their way to get to the top and to prepare for royal life. Something about these kind of stories intrigues me so.

Now I shall turn to three different pages and write out a chosen paragraph. I'll be careful not to let out spoilers though!

Miri stood behind him and peered under his lifted arm. She could see pairs of torch-bearing soldiers all over the village. Two approached their door, their faces visible by torchlight - one was older than her pa, tall, with a hard face, and the other seemed but a boy dressed up.

"Though in truth," said Olana, "as you are not from one of the kingdom's provinces, you would be considered less than a servant in any Danlander city."

"I know you won't. I know that about you." He held the end of her braid and brushed it across his palm. He frowned as if a new thought occurred to him. "Do you ever wear your hair loose?"

Now I have let you get a glimpse of how the book is like! Personally, I thought it was interesting and had read it everyday since I started reading it, even though exams' still going on that time. XD Who cares!
