Hotaru spends every summer at her Uncle's house and was lost in a forest while playing one day. She then met a boy, Gin, whom guided her out of the forest and they befriended each other. She was told not to return, but was reluctant and said to come back the next day, in which she did. The next day, she saw Gin by the stairs they came down from yesterday.
Their friendship begins from there on, and they would meet every summer. But there is a limitation to their bond; that is that Hotaru was not allowed to touch Gin. Basically, Gin shouldn't be in contact with a human because he would disappear and they tried hard to keep it that way.
Year after year, Hotaru would come every summer and they would spend time together until Hotaru goes back.You have to watch it as I don't want to be a plot spoiler. But be sure to watch it, especially if you like sentimental shows~ I shed a little tears, but this wasn't my worst so sensitive viewers may be able to cope!
